Sometimes I wonder how the boys got to love construction so much. We certainly weren't intentional about pushing them toward it, but even so they found, somehow, a niche that is amazing and exciting to both of them. If you asked me 6 years ago if I would know what the difference between a loader, a skid steer, an excavator and a backhoe are I would have said nope. Nada. Don't know. No se.
But I do now, thanks to our boys.
So, when the annual Dozer Days event came around and a friend told us about it, we knew we would pretty much make that week the best week ever in the history of their brief lives if we went.
Dozer days is an annual event put on by Children's Hospital where you pay a small fee and sign a waiver and then the fees all go to the Hospital and the kids get to ride large equipment. Not like a lawnmower equipment, like the largest equipment you've ever seen. Giant CAT dumptrucks, HUGE excavators, rollers, graders, skid steers, you name it, they likely had it there. All the operators volunteer their time on the Saturday to drive the machines and kids wait in line for the glorious chance to ride with the operator in the machine.
As you might have guessed the boys were brimming with excitement and could barely contain themselves when they got there. The lines were long, but it really wasn't an issue because they stared with their mouths open at the big equipment and waited or played in the massive sandbox with kid sized versions of the equipment. Whatever the case, they were super happy and adored getting to ride in all the big machines.
